DEPARTAMENTO DE ARTIGAS URUGUAY
Artigas es un departamento de Uruguay ubicado en el norte del país a unos 600 km de Montevideo.
Su capital es la ciudad de Artigas, vecina de la ciudad brasileña de Quarai.
Cuenta con una superficie de 11 928 km², siendo el quinto más extenso del país.
Tiene una población de 73.378 habitantes según el censo de 2011.
Limita al norte y al este con Brasil, del cual está separado por el río Cuareim; al sur con el departamento de Salto y al oeste con Argentina, de la cual está separada por el río Uruguay.
En su vértice noroeste se encuentra Bella Unión, ciudad que recibe ese nombre dado que se encuentra en la unión del río Cuareim con el río Uruguay, en la frontera de Uruguay con Brasil y Argentina; esto le otorga una característica especial de Triple Frontera, (único departamento uruguayo con frontera con 2 países).
Cuenta con dos territorios, (denominados como "límites contestados" por los mapas de geografía uruguayos), en disputa con Brasil que son: el Rincón de Artigas y la llamada isla Brasilera.

Artigas Uruguay is a department located in the north about 600 km from Montevideo.
Its capital is the city of Artigas, a resident of the Brazilian city of Quarai.
It has an area of 11 928 km ², making it the fifth largest in the country.
It has a population of 73,378 inhabitants according to the 2011 census.
Bordered on the north and east by Brazil, which is separated by the river Cuareim the south by the department of Salto and west by Argentina, which is separated by the river Uruguay.
In the northwest corner is Bella Union, a town so named because it is located at the junction of the river with the river Uruguay Cuareim in Uruguay's border with Brazil and Argentina, this gives a special feature of Triple Frontera (only department Uruguayan border 2 countries).
It has two territories (referred to as "answered limits" by Uruguayan geography maps) in dispute with Brazil that are the corner called Artigas and Brazilian island.
